The Eagle Eye of Pastor Dave

I typed up this story a week or so after the after the passing of Pastor David Wilkerson, although I never was able to finish it until now.  I am writing this to share a one of the personal experiences I had with Pastor Dave while on the platform at Times Square Church.

The first Sunday after Pastor Dave's passing, Pastor Carter Conlon spoke a message entitled  "A Private Message for Times Square Church".  It was sort of a private memorial server for those of us who call TSC our home church. If you were unable to attend, I highly recommended that you listen to it.

One of the stories that Pastor Carter told was in regarding to Pastor Dave's "eagle eye".  It was a humorous story illustrating his ability to notice small details.  I won't attempted to retell that story here, but instead refer you to the link above.  This story that Pastor Carter told reminded me of an experience I had when I first started playing trumpet in the Times Square Church worship team. I don't remember the exact date, but it must have been a few months after I had joined the worship team.  At that time I was sitting in a chair right  that had a direct view to the row of pastor's.  During the worship time of one particular service I witnessed first hand the "eagle eye"of Pastor Dave. During a  moment in the music when I  was not playing my instrument I have to admit that my mind starting wandering a bit.  Since I had a direct view of the pastor's, I started to look at Pastor Dave.  He had is eye's closed and it looked like he was praying by the fact that his lips were moving, but not to the rhythm of the music. As my mind continued to wander, I then asked myself the question, "I wonder what Pastor Dave pray's about during the service?".  In attempt to answer my own question, I then found myself trying to read his lips. I have no lip reading skill so therefore was not really able to discern the words.  About 5 seconds into my lip reading attempt,  Pastor Dave then very deliberately opened one of his eye's and stared directly at ME! I quickly darted my eye's elsewhere as my heart raced to 200 bpm's. Now I am not sure whether he felt my stare, whether the Holy Spirit told him I was up to something, or it was just a coincidence. Either way, I learned my lesson and went back to worshipping and playing my trumpet.

Pastor Carter shared during the "Private Message" that he learned more from standing next to Pastor Dave and listening to him worship than almost anything else. He also revealed, after these many years, what exactly Pastor Dave prays about during a service. He said that most of the time Pastor Dave was praying for the Holy Spirit to come into the service.  He was asking for the presence of the Spirit.  As I was driving home on the day of the memorial service, my wife pointed out to me that God had answered question that I had years before about what Pastor Dave prayed about. I guess now I am not embarrassed about the fact that I was wondering what Pastor Dave was praying. And now that I know what he was praying for, I want to commit myself to continuing that prayer. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit comes in every sense.  I pray he comes to give my wife and I the wisdom and ability to love each other and raise our kids up in the way of the Lord. I pray that he comes to me every morning and gives me strength to stand for Jesus at my workplace. I pray that he pours his spirit out during our corporate times of worship at TSC. I pray that he pours his spirit our on all of NYC and that revival would once again touch our city.
